Matthew McConaughey became a dad at 6:22pm PT on July 7 when longtime girlfriend Camila Alves gave birth to a 7 lb., 4 oz. little lad in California. "A healthy baby boy was born," Matthew tells OK! in an exclusive statement. "Camila and I were side by side the entire time. We are both tired and elated, and are so happy to have created the greatest miracle in the world — Having a child and making a family. Now comes the greatest adventure — raising one, together."
This is the first child for Camila, 24, and Matthew, who announced his great expectations on his official web site in January. And despite the actor's puckish behavior, one thing that's never been in doubt for Matthew is the question of whether or not he is ready for fatherhood. "One thing I've heard that's consistent is that whatever plans you make, throw them out the window because it's not a science," he said recently. "But I've got the instincts for it, and I know Camila does, and I'm looking forward to the big adventure."
