In addition to discussing daughter Britney's disintegration, Lynne Spears also opened up on Wednesday's Today show about daughter Jamie Lynn getting pregnant at 16. Lynne recalled how she was planning to go out for lunch when Jamie Lynn called and told her to come home.
At home, Lynne found her daughter's boyfriend, Casey Aldridge, who avoided eye contact. Jamie Lynn then handed her mother a note and told her to go into her bedroom to read it. "It said she was pregnant and everything was going to be OK. She was going to raise it," Lynne told Meredith Vieira. "I thought it was a joke I was waiting for the punch line," Lynne added. "I was in shock. I think I was just truly in shock, and then I started to cry. And she started consoling me at that point."
Lynne -- who sold the story to OK! for $1 million -- added that she blamed herself for her children's personal dramas. "As a mother, don’t we always blame ourselves?" she said. "I took a lot of the blame. I took all the blame. The personality I have, it's always my fault."
Lynne told Al Roker in a later segment, "A mother is as happy as her most unhappy child. You kind of gravitate toward the one who needs you the most at that time ... It's a balancing act. Maybe I haven't done it as best as I could, but all I ever tell you is I tried." Referencing her book Through the Storm, Roker asked, "Are you through the storm?" "Oh, yes," Lynne said. "We’re through the storm and we're looking at the sunshine right now."

Jamie Lynn Spears and her seven-week-old daughter, Maddie Briann, stepped out in Kentwood, Louisiana, on Wednesday. After a visit to the doctor's office, the two popped by the local Wal-Mart — the same spot where Jamie Lynn celebrated her 17th birthday in April.
Jamie Lynn, who showed off her post-baby bod in hot pink shorts, covered Maddie with a pale pink blanket. The group finished off the afternoon with lunch at the Spears' family favorite, Nyla's Burger Basket. Jamie Lynn and her fiancé, 19-year-old pipe layer Casey Aldridge, have been keeping a low profile since welcoming their daughter in June.

It was a family affair Saturday as Lynne Spears hung out with Britney and her sons Sean Preston, 2 ½, and Jayden James, 1 ½, for an overnight visit at the star's Studio City home. In town since Wednesday, Lynne and Britney have been enjoying some mother-daughter bonding, shopping at the True Religion warehouse and Pottery Barn on Friday before enjoying a "girls dinner" of salad, sushi rolls, and fish at Bond St. restaurant with two of Britney's pals.
"Britney walked in with a big smile and introduced her mom to the staff," says an observer. "She looked gorgeous, and I have never seen her in a better mood. She was laughing the whole time she was here. Britney seemed to have the best time hanging out with her mom and friends." Meanwhile, dad Jamie spent the weekend at his new house in Santa Monica.

After spending the last year watching her sister Britney Spears struggle to overcome the pitfalls of fame and, at just 16, announcing her own pregnancy with boyfriend Casey Aldridge, Jamie Lynn Spears tells OK! exclusively that she plans to lead a much more low-key life with her new baby daughter. "More than anything, I just want this baby to have a normal life," Jamie Lynn, 17, told OK!.
And she stayed true to her word when, in the pre-dawn hours of June 21, just two days after her birth, Maddie Briann Aldridge got her first taste of celebrity. Barely 48 hours old, Maddie and her mom, Jamie Lynn were the stars of a finely choreographed dance meant to fool the paparazzi and allow the pair to get home safely without the kind of mad crush that greeted big sis Britney when she tearfully returned to L.A. from Louisiana 12 hours earlier.
State troopers, private security detail and Jamie Lynn look-alikes were all used to sneak mom and baby out of Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb, Mississippi, and back to their new home in Liberty. The ruse was pulled off successfully with the help of Maddie's grandma Lynne Spears and proud papa Casey Aldridge, 18, who drove Jamie Lynn's SUV with decoys hidden behind a large white sheet in the backseat.
Maddie's birth on June 19 was, thankfully, more low-key. Reports that Jamie Lynn had delivered via C-section were completely false. Her labor began on June 18 — two days before her expected due date — and at 9:33 the next morning, Maddie had made her grand entrance.
Barely more than a child herself, Jamie Lynn has proven to be exceptionally mature in dealing with her pregnancy and motherhood. Her priority is to give Maddie an upbringing that is more Kentwood than Hollywood.
Though Britney, 26, is well on her way to getting her life and career back on track, Jamie Lynn has seen the impact that fame has had on her super-famous sister, including two broken marriages, three stints in rehab and a brutal child-custody battle. "We want to give the baby the most normal life she could ever have," Jamie Lynn tells OK!.

Maddie Briann entered the world with a full head of hair, her daddy's toes and the world's most famous aunt waiting just outside the door. New mom Jamie Lynn Spears, daddy Casey Aldridge and baby Maddie are catching up on rest following the birth Thursday at a hospital in McComb, Mississippi, near the Spears family home across the state line in Kentwood, Louisiana, a source tells PEOPLE.
"They're doing terrific," the source says. "The baby's got 10 fingers and 10 toes ... and a full head of hair. She's long, a tall baby, and she weighs 7 lbs, 11 oz." When the baby was born at about 9:30 a.m., Jamie Lynn's sister, Britney, and the rest of the Spears and Aldridge families were just outside the birthing room in the spacious maternity suite.
The relatives then joined the new family in the birthing room and took turns holding Maddie Briann and commenting on her features. When new grandmother Joyce Aldridge held the baby, she remarked that Maddie "has Casey's toes," the source says. Jamie Lynn, 17, and Casey, 19, intend to get married soon, but no date has been announced. Jamie Lynn recently purchased a home in nearby Liberty, Mississippi, where she and Casey have been living for about three weeks.

There is a new baby in the Spears clan! Jamie Lynn Spears and her fiancé Casey Aldridge welcomed a baby girl Thursday morning. PEOPLE confirmed exclusively that the baby was named Maddie Briann.
"Just the family was there," says a source about the birth around 9:30 a.m. at a hospital in Mississippi, near her Louisiana hometown. "Everyone is healthy and happy." Jamie Lynn's sister Britney, father Jamie and brother Bryan flew in Wednesday to be with her for the birth; her mother Lynne had been with her helping her get ready for the baby.
Since announcing her pregnancy in December, Britney’s little sister has retreated from the bright lights of Hollywood, opting for the comforts of her hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana. With her Nickelodeon show Zoey 101 already ended, Jamie Lynn went home to prepare for the birth of her baby.
The actress, 17, and Aldridge, 19, got engaged in March. Recently, the couple purchased a three-bedroom home in Liberty, Mississippi, where Casey went to high school. Over the last few months, Jamie Lynn has kept busy by passing her GED exam, preparing the nursery and attending multiple baby showers.
Jamie Lynn's Zoey 101 costar, Erin Sanders, told PEOPLE earlier this year that the actress will be a fun mother. "She is just a very good-hearted and warm person," he said. "We would always hang out on the set and she is a lot of fun, so I think she's going to be an easygoing, fun mom."

Lynne Spears's memoir about raising her famous daughters Britney and Jamie Lynn will be released this fall, the publisher confirms to PEOPLE.
"When Jamie Lynn got pregnant, it was put on hold," says a spokesman for Thomas Nelson, which publishes inspirational books and Bibles. "Lynne never stopped working on it because she wants to express her love for her children and tell their stories through a mother's eyes."
Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World is likely to be released in September, says the spokesman. Lynne's manuscript "will not be a parenting book," he says. "It's her story of what it was like being a mom and raising two very famous people. It's a memoir."

Jamie Lynn Spears and her fiancé Casey Aldridge are in full-on nesting mode. The parents-to-be, who recently purchased their first home together in Liberty, Mississippi, are preparing for the imminent birth of their child, sources tell PEOPLE. "They're very happy," says a source. "They're a fun little couple."
To get settled in their new home, Jamie Lynn, 17, and Casey, 19, recently had furniture – including an elaborately carved four-poster king-size canopy bed, a leather recliner, and a leather sofa – delivered to the house.
Jamie Lynn's mom, Lynne, is helping her daughter decorate the nursery, with the color scheme of pink, brown, and "silver-green," says an insider. Jamie Lynn, who is due to give birth soon, has been keeping a low profile as she readies the new house for her baby. The five-acre Liberty property is already equipped with a barn and studio, which was formerly used as a hair salon.
One new neighbor, who has already offered to babysit, says, "They're just a sweet little old couple." Jamie Lynn and Casey, who got engaged in March, plan to wed after the baby is born.
