Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer have called it quits, multiple sources confirm to PEOPLE. "They had a great time together but they are just in different places in their lives right now," says a source of Jen, 39, and John, 30, who kicked off their courtship in April.
A friend of John’s adds that a reconciliation isn't necessarily out of the question: "He never ends things with a clean slate. He likes to dwell on these relationships and sort everything out before saying goodbye for good." The split was first reported Wednesday by the U.K.'s Mirror, which said the couple split earlier this week, after initially deciding to spend some time apart.

The tabloid also offers up elaborate details: She will wear a Vera Wang dress, there will orchids everywhere and they will serve champagne and caviar. "She’s at an age where she is thinking with her head not just her heart,” OK! quotes a source as saying. But her rep tells Usmagazine.com: "She is not getting married."

He's been linked to many beautiful women and has been labeled a womanizer, but John Mayer assures that he has "never cheated on anybody."
"I've never cheated on anybody, so you won't have anybody coming out the woodwork saying that I have," he tells The Telegraph. "Instead of worrying about career damage, I've dated women. All I've ever done was decided that I fancied somebody, and said, 'Would you like to go out and get a meal somewhere?' And done so in a social setting, where other people can see you."
If that goes well, it may lead to a few more meals, but when he realizes the relationship may not work out, John says he's quick to call it quits. "When I realized that I didn't wanna wrong anybody by continuing, said, 'I'd rather be a great friend to you than a bad boyfriend,'" he says. "I swear to God, I have a really good track record!'"

"This is one of the hardest lifestyles to live, socially, because there's so many ways that it can go dirty," he says. And I'm just trying to live as suburban a life inside of what I guess is a much larger persona now than I've ever had."
He continues, "That's why I'm so happy to go back out on tour - but the thing is, even I'm less interested in talking about music than I am in talking about this stuff?!
